I almost went with something red and heart-shaped, given the occasion. Instead, I want to show you a picture of bleakness, loneliness, a chilling atmosphere and the perfect setting for mysterious tales of winter. silhouette by *the--end isn't an anti-valentine, but a glimpse into the opposite of seasonal emotion, subtlety at it's best.

This photo has beautiful colour to it. The viewer gets a sharp sense of loneliness from this, as I am sure is intended. However, affair from this, I have a few pointers.

The piece, is supposed to be focused on loneliness or at least not "together - ness". Yet, the tree as beautiful as it is, distracts the viewer from the lowly shape in the distance. This would be okay, if the eye was able to travel in bettween the two with ease. However, it cannot. The tree is far too dominant, and the figure too miniscule. Upon first glance, I could not even see the body.

I would suggest either cutting the tree out entirely, or retaking the picture (or photoshopping it) so that the person is closer to the tree. So as to let to eye travel down the tree to the trunk then the person. Right now, your figure is too far off and gets lost in the black grass beneath the snow. If you choose to get rid of the tree, you might want to try making more a rectangular piece, vertically. So that the figure is in the center of the photo, but also in between the sky and the earth. (does that make sense?)

At any rate, you need far more focus on the person.

also, the sky is quite beautiful, but if you are focusing on bleakness, then perhaps you should crop off the top of the clouds where it is darkest. It puts too much focus on the tree area, once again, and not the lonely person.

Besides this, this photo is not something new to DA. Horizons, black trees and perhaps some unknown figure in the distance is a tad over done. Beautiful, which explains the popularity, but still not very original.

This photo, although it has lovely atmosphere, it means nothing without a proper subject. Take less view off the tree and more onto your intended subject.
